Women's Rights on the Screen
Filmfest FrauenWelten is a festival with a clear stance: The focus is on films that tell the stories of women who advocate for human rights, self-determination, and against violence. Since 2001, TERRE DES FEMMES has annually invited audiences to a week of programming featuring feature films, documentaries, and short films from around the world, followed by discussions with filmmakers, activists, and experts. In 2020, the festival moved from Tübingen to Berlin and has since found its permanent home at the cinema in KulturBrauerei.
26th Edition from November 18 to 24, 2026
The 26th edition runs from November 18 to 24, 2026 — seven days, around 30 films, international guests. The films cover topics such as domestic violence, sexual self-determination, refugees, female genital mutilation, women's politics, religion, and work. The festival combines premieres, festival premieres, and rediscoveries — and emphasizes that every screening leaves room for discussion.
Cinema, Readings, City Tours
In addition to the films, the program includes a literary reading and historical city tours: TERRE DES FEMMES uses the festival to make the history of the women's movement in Berlin visible and to connect it with current struggles. This clearly positions FrauenWelten as a human rights festival with a political focus — rather than just a genre cinema.
Kino in der KulturBrauerei — Main Venue
The main venue is the cinema in KulturBrauerei at Schönhauser Allee 36 in Prenzlauer Berg (Pankow district). With eight screens, the cinema has been a central hub of Berlin's film culture for years and offers the screens where FrauenWelten can show its film week program in parallel. Additionally, a supporting online program with selected films is regularly available.
TERRE DES FEMMES — A German Voice for Women's Rights
Since 1981, TERRE DES FEMMES has been committed to the rights of women and girls — against violence, genital mutilation, forced marriage, and for equal participation. The film festival is the cultural extension of this work: films as a means of education, empowerment, and solidarity. In the state of Berlin, in the Pankow district, the festival annually sets a clear accent in a city that likes to see itself as the "capital of the women's movement."
