14th Landau edition of the worldwide music festival for the summer solstice with over 30 stages in the city centre
Fête de la Musique was founded in 1982 by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang in Paris and has since established itself in over 120 countries and more than 700 cities. In Germany, it is celebrated in numerous cities. In Landau, the Kulturinitiative Landau has been organizing it since 2013 – one of the oldest Fêtes in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region after Mannheim.
With its 14th edition, the festival has established itself in Landau as the most important open-air music event of early summer. The city centre between Stiftskirche, Rathausplatz, Schlössel, Frank-Loebsches Haus, and Marktstraße becomes a continuous stage landscape. Over 30 performance venues are spread across squares, courtyards, and street corners.
In the spirit of its Parisian founding, every musician performs without a fee – the festival relies on the voluntary commitment of the Kulturinitiative and the willingness of artists to perform. Acoustic music is preferred to maintain the atmosphere of an urban open-air concert and minimize sound conflicts. The spectrum ranges from singer-songwriters, jazz, classical, folk, rock, and world music to small ensembles and choirs.
All concerts are free, and no registration is required. Visitors can stroll freely through the city centre and let themselves be carried from stage to stage. Restaurants, wine stands, and snack bars in the city centre will be open.
Fête de la Musique 2026 coincides with the third Sunday concert in the Goethepark: The Stadtkapelle Landau will play at 11 AM at the concert shell, thus opening the day of music. In the evening, the festival moves into the city centre.
The stages will be set up during the afternoon. The first concerts will begin at 4 PM simultaneously at several locations. The programmes will run until midnight – with an increasingly dense atmosphere in the evening, while the city centre's restaurants remain open.
The complete stage map with all artists will be published by Kulturinitiative Landau in May/June 2026.
