A Festival Venue with Renaissance Charm
Schloss Amerang in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim is a Renaissance complex, largely rebuilt in the 16th century, with a three-story arcade courtyard considered one of the most beautiful of its kind north of the Alps. The inner courtyard forms the natural festival stage: a twelve-meter high stage construction, excellent acoustics, and the intimate proximity between stage and audience make every performance a special experience. The festival has been organized since the late 1960s by the von Crailsheim family, who still own the castle today.
Castle Concerts: Seven Sunday Dates
The 2026 season opens with the castle concerts: on seven Sundays between June and September, chamber ensembles, soloists, and soloists will perform in the castle chapel, the arcade courtyard, or the concert hall. The program ranges from baroque matinees with Concert Royal Köln to string quartet evenings and organ concerts on the historic house organ.
Opera Festival: Four Major Works
The centerpiece of the season is the opera festival between June 28 and August 8, 2026. For the 11th edition of the opera festival, the Festspiele will present four central works from the classical-romantic repertoire:
- Carmen by Georges Bizet (Premiere June 28, 2026)
- Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi (Premiere July 18, 2026)
- The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (July 26, 2026)
- The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini (August 1, 2026)
Classical Meets Pop and Tradition
In addition to opera and chamber music, the festival also opens up to popular programs: tribute concerts to the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel complement the classical program, as do Bavarian folk music evenings and world music ensembles. This diversity makes Schloss Amerang a festival venue that appeals to a broad audience of Munich culture fans, local families, and concert travelers.
In the Chiemsee-Alpenland
Amerang is located in the Chiemsee-Alpenland region between Wasserburg am Inn and Lake Chiemsee, about 70 kilometers east of Munich. Visitors to the festival often combine it with an excursion to the lake, a hike in the Chiemgau region, or a visit to the EFA Automobile Museum in Amerang.

Festspiele Schloss Amerang — edition 2026
The 2026 festival transforms the Renaissance arcade courtyard of Schloss Amerang into an intimate stage throughout the summer. The castle concerts kick off starting June 7: chamber music, baroque matinees, and solo recitals on seven Sundays spread between June and early September.
From June 28 to August 8, the opera festival follows with 'Carmen' (premiere June 28), 'Rigoletto' (premiere July 18), 'The Magic Flute' (July 26), and 'The Barber of Seville' (August 1). The program is complemented by tribute concerts (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel) and Bavarian folk music evenings.

Getting There
Amerang is located in the Rosenheim district, about 70 kilometers east of Munich. By car via the A 8 (exit Bernau or Frasdorf), then B 304/B 15. By train to Wasserburg-Reitmehring or Bad Endorf, then continue by bus 9421. Parking is available directly at the castle.

Tips
