Classical concerts of the MV Summer Festival in the Hanseatic city
Since 1990, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have shaped the cultural summer in the Northeast of Germany. With around 190 events at approximately 80 venues between mid-June and mid-September, they are among the largest classical festivals in the country and Europe. Castles, manor houses, churches, barns, and concert halls throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern become stages for classical music, jazz, and world music during this time.
The Hanseatic city of Rostock, the largest city in the Rostock district and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, regularly hosts several festival concerts. In 2026, the Rostock dates are spread across St. Nicholas' Church, the Kunsthalle Rostock, and the foyer of the OstseeSparkasse at Vögenteich. Each venue contributes its own character – from the acoustics of the Gothic hall church to the concert atmosphere of the modern Sparkasse foyer.
The family concert "Malte seeks the best rhythm in the world" with the Porter Percussion Duo in the foyer of the OstseeSparkasse kicks things off. In St. Nicholas' Church, the world-famous King's Singers will perform their program "From Byrd to the Beach Boys," spanning Renaissance to Pop. The concert series GRENZGÄNGE brings contemporary jazz to the Kunsthalle Rostock with Brazilian pianist Amaro Freitas. In the summer, the Queen's Six from Windsor Castle and Klezmer legend Giora Feidman with his program "Music for a Better World" will follow.
The density of British vocal ensembles is striking: both the King's Singers and the Queen's Six are at the forefront of the European a cappella scene. Their performances in the over 750-year-old St. Nicholas' Church, one of the oldest hall churches in the Baltic Sea region, combine exceptional vocal artistry with a historic soundscape.
The Rostock program is just a snippet of a festival that plays throughout the entire state all summer long. Experiencing the festivals in Rostock immerses you in a festival landscape that makes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern one of Germany's most musical states every year.
