City Circuit Cycling Race with Festival Character

The Festival RAD am GutenbergRING is one of Northern Germany's most established cycling race events. The venue is the GutenbergRING in the Nettelkrögen industrial area in Norderstedt-Friedrichsgabe – a 1.4-kilometer, car-free road circuit that is completely closed off for the event. On this city circuit, licensed and amateur cyclists of all ages compete: from U11 to Masters, from the women's elite to para-athletes.

Race Classes and Inclusion

The festival is deliberately broad in scope:

  • U11 to U19 – Junior classes with age-appropriate distances
  • Masters – Adult classes 30+ to 60+
  • Women's Elite – Separate women's races
  • Men's Elite – Main races for licensed riders
  • People with Disabilities – Inclusive races with para-athletes
  • Stadtwerke Amateur Race: 28 kilometers – for beginners and amateur cyclists without a license

The amateur race is the magnet for the general public: you can participate in the 28 km race even without a license or club membership.

Bicycle Flea Market and Bicycle Fair

The supporting program expands the race into a true festival:

  • Bicycle Flea Market: Used bikes, components, and accessories at a large flea market area
  • Bicycle Fair: Exhibitors from the cycling industry with models, service offers, and advice
  • Food, drinks, and musical accompaniment

Part of the Norderstedt Sports Week

The festival is part of the Norderstedt Sports Week, which takes place annually at the end of August and beginning of September (2026 from August 29 to September 6). The sports week includes numerous sporting events across all disciplines – the Festival RAD am GutenbergRING is one of the highlights.

Region: Norderstedt, Hamburg Metropolitan Region

Norderstedt, with around 80,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest cities in the Segeberg district and belongs to the Hamburg Metropolitan Region – the city is located directly north of Hamburg and is excellently connected via the U1 subway line and the A7 motorway. The district of Friedrichsgabe houses the Nettelkrögen industrial area with the GutenbergRING. The festival utilizes the unusual constellation: a modern city circuit in an industrial area that becomes a cycling temple once a year.

RAD am GutenbergRING — edition 2026

The Festival RAD am GutenbergRING 2026 takes place on Sunday, August 30. Cycling races for all classes from U11 to Masters on the 1.4 km city circuit, women's and men's elite, inclusive race for people with disabilities, and the 28 km Stadtwerke amateur race. A bicycle flea market and bicycle fair complete the program.

The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, August 30 in Norderstedt-Friedrichsgabe on the GutenbergRING. Races for all classes will be held on the 1.4-kilometer, car-free city circuit, from the junior categories to the Masters class, plus separate women's races and an inclusive race for people with disabilities.

The public highlight is the Stadtwerke Amateur Race over 28 kilometers (approx. 20 laps), which is also open to beginners. Registration is expected to open in June 2026 on the festival website.
