Fest der Sinne — Karlsruhe's Spring Festival on Five Squares

The Fest der Sinne Karlsruhe has been the city's annual spring festival for years, transforming the city center into a diverse open-air festival for a weekend. From April 25th to 26th, 2026, the festival will occupy five central squares in the city center, each with its own thematic focus. The organizer is Karlsruher Citymarketing. Free admission. On Sunday, April 26th, there will be a Sunday shopping event from 1 PM to 6 PM in the city center and Durlach.

Five Squares, Five Focuses

  • Marktplatz — Gourmet Market: Around 40 stands with traditional and plant-based cuisine, open both days from 11 AM to 8 PM. Street food, cheese stands, ham, organic products, international cuisine, wine, and beer — the central culinary showcase.
  • Friedrichsplatz — Activities and Hands-on Program: Workshops, catering, live music.
  • Kirchplatz St. Stephan: Further program highlights with catering.
  • Stephanplatz — Family Focus 2026: For the first time, Germany's largest mobile ninja course — an obstacle course for children and teenagers, with walls, swing elements, balance beams, and skill stations.
  • Schlossplatz — "100 Years of the Karlsruhe Professional Fire Brigade": For the 2026 anniversary edition, 120 historical fire engines and 20 historical hoses will be on display on Schlossplatz — a particularly impressive spectacle for technology enthusiasts and families.

The Gourmet Market at Marktplatz

The Gourmet Market is the gastronomic heart of the festival. Both days (Saturday and Sunday) from 11 AM to 8 PM, around 40 gourmet stands gather on Marktplatz with a wide spectrum: traditional Baden and Swabian cuisine (Maultaschen, Schäufele, Flammkuchen), plant-based and vegan stands (a conscious expansion of the festival in recent years), regional cheese and sausage products, wine from Kaiserstuhl and Markgräflerland, Baden beer, freshly squeezed juices. The stands cater to both quick lunches and longer stays with a glass of wine in the afternoon.

100 Years of the Professional Fire Brigade — The Schlossplatz Focus

The Karlsruhe Professional Fire Brigade turns 100 in 2026 — the city celebrates this with a special exhibition on Schlossplatz. 120 historical fire engines, from steam pumps from the late 19th century to modern large-scale emergency vehicles, will be displayed across Schlossplatz. In addition, 20 historical hoses will be exhibited as a collection documenting the evolution of firefighting. An exceptional special exhibition for families with children and technology enthusiasts.

The Mobile Ninja Course

A new feature in 2026: Germany's largest mobile ninja course will be set up on Stephanplatz. This is a temporary obstacle course for children and teenagers, inspired by the TV show "Ninja Warrior." Walls, swing elements, balance beams, hanging sections — a mix of climbing frame and skill test that can engage younger visitors for hours.

Karlsruhe — The Fan City on the Rhine

With nearly 310,000 inhabitants, Karlsruhe is the second-largest city in Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart. The city's characteristic fan shape — laid out in 1715 by Margrave Karl Wilhelm — makes the central squares (Marktplatz, Schlossplatz, Friedrichsplatz) exceptionally clearly structured stages for such large events. The Fest der Sinne uses the five squares as independent program spaces — you can walk through the city center without the program ever stopping.

Fest der Sinne — edition 2026

The Fest der Sinne Karlsruhe 2026 takes place on the weekend of April 25–26, 2026, on five squares in the city center: Marktplatz (Gourmet Market 11 AM–8 PM), Friedrichsplatz, Kirchplatz St. Stephan, Stephanplatz (Germany's largest mobile ninja course), and Schlossplatz (100 Years of the Karlsruhe Professional Fire Brigade with 120 historical vehicles and 20 historical hoses). Sunday, April 26th, features Sunday shopping in the city center and Durlach from 1 PM–6 PM. Organizer: Karlsruher Citymarketing. Free admission.

2026 Program — Five Squares, Five Focuses

The 2026 edition takes advantage of the special occasion "100 Years of the Karlsruhe Professional Fire Brigade" for a main focus on Schlossplatz — an exceptionally extensive exhibition of historical fire engines and hoses. On Stephanplatz, Germany's largest mobile ninja course will be set up for the first time — a clear family offering. Marktplatz, Friedrichsplatz, and Kirchplatz St. Stephan form the culinary and program highlights with the Gourmet Market and activities.

The Sunday shopping event connects the festival with Karlsruhe's retail sector — the city center and Durlach open their stores from 1 PM to 6 PM.
