Festival of Cultures — Lived Diversity at Europaplatz
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the clubs in the Plattenwald district of Bad Friedrichshall will celebrate their annual Festival of Cultures at Europaplatz. The square's name itself speaks to the concept: Plattenwald is one of the most multicultural districts in the Heilbronn district, grown from the industrial city of Bad Friedrichshall, with residents from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Poland, former Yugoslavia, the Middle East, and Asia. Instead of seeing this diversity as a burden, the district has made it an annual celebration.
International Food Stalls — A Trip Around the World at Europaplatz
Starting at 11 AM, clubs and residents will set up their stalls. You'll find a culinary diversity that you can only experience in this form at a multicultural neighbourhood festival:
- Italian: Pizza, Pasta, Tiramisu, Espresso
- Greek: Gyros, Tzatziki, Baklava, Souvlaki
- Turkish: Köfte, Börek, Lokum, Turkish tea
- Polish: Pierogi, Bigos, Polish sausage platter
- Balkan: Ćevapčići, Burek, Rakija
- Arabic / Middle Eastern: Falafel, Hummus, Shawarma
- Asian: Spring rolls, fried noodles, Asian soups
Alongside these, of course, are German classics: Bratwurst, Schnitzel, cheese platter, Baden wine, and draft beer.
Stage Program with International Music
On the stage at Europaplatz, the clubs present an international music program: dance groups (folk dances from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Poland), musicians with folk instruments (accordion, bouzouki, saz), choirs, and modern bands. The opening is usually by the senior brass band with the traditional keg tapping ceremony (Fassanstich) — a proven German festival custom that officially opens the event.
Clubs — The Backbone of the District
The festival is organized jointly by the clubs of the Plattenwald district: clubs for Greek culture, Italian culture, Turkish culture, sports clubs, youth clubs, social clubs. This cooperation is a model for successful integration — the clubs know each other, work together, and jointly put on a festival that is open to everyone.
Bad Friedrichshall and Plattenwald
Bad Friedrichshall, with just under 19,000 inhabitants, is located in the Heilbronn district, at the confluence of the Neckar, Kocher, and Jagst rivers. The town was formed in 1934 from the merger of the villages of Jagstfeld, Kochendorf, and Hagenbach and is today an industrial and residential city. Plattenwald is one of the districts, developed in the post-war period, with a high proportion of residents with a migration background. The Festival of Cultures expresses the district's pride in its diversity — a festive day on which Plattenwald celebrates for itself and for all of Bad Friedrichshall.
