The Alte Schäferei as a Market Courtyard
Since 1986, the Alte Schäferei in Ahorn has housed the Gerätemuseum des Coburger Landes – a collection of historical equipment, tools, and living spaces from the rural Coburg region. Once in spring, the museum grounds transform into an evening market: regional producers present their range between the farm buildings, inner courtyard, and orchard.
Genussregion Coburger Land
The market is supported by a cooperation with Genussregion Coburger Land e.V. – an association of farms, breweries, bakeries, butchers, and manufacturers from the districts of Coburg and the city of Coburg. The Feierabendmarkt offers a compact selection: Franconian raw sausage, Coburger Bratwurst, game specialties, honey, liqueurs, bread, and cheese from the region.
Ambience and Programme
The Feierabendmarkt deliberately takes place after work hours – a casual end to the workday in the countryside. The stalls open at 4 PM, and in the evenings, a small live combo often provides musical accompaniment. Children can move freely around the museum grounds, and adults can book guided tours of the farm afterwards.
Season Opening at the Museum
The market is part of the Alte Schäferei's annual event programme, which runs from April to November. It marks the season opener and is complemented by other markets, concerts, and special exhibitions. The museum itself is open Tuesday to Sunday from 2 PM to 5 PM.
