Palatinate Carnival tradition around the Trifels town with Dirty Thursday, Rose Monday, and Children's Carnival
The Faschingsumzug Annweiler am Trifels is the highlight of a Palatinate Carnival campaign, which the Karnevalverein Annweiler organizes over several weeks from January until Ash Wednesday. The focus is on three dates: Dirty Thursday (Weiberfasching) on February 12, 2026, the actual Rose Monday parade on February 16, 2026, and Children's Carnival on Shrove Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Annweiler lies in the shadow of the imperial Trifels Castle and is one of the traditional carnival towns in the Southern Palatinate. Starting in January, the Karnevalverein organizes gala sessions, "Närrische Mädelssitzungen" (jovial ladies' sessions), and children's sessions in the community center before the street carnival concludes the festive season.
For decades, the Karnevalverein Annweiler (KV Annweiler) has been the driving force behind organized carnival in the Trifels town. The club unites dance troupes, a men's ballet formation, the council of eleven (Elferrat), and a team of satirical speakers (Büttenredner). During the indoor carnival in January and February, the club ensemble performs at several sessions before activities shift to the town center for street carnival.
On Dirty Thursday, February 12, 2026, the revellers symbolically take over the town hall and celebrate Weiberfasching. Three days later, on Rose Monday, February 16, 2026, the carnival parade winds its way through Annweiler's town center. Floats from local clubs, walking groups from the Trifels region, brass bands (Guggemusiken) from the area, and the KV's dance troupes will make the main street come alive.
On Shrove Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the KV Annweiler invites children to a Children's Carnival at the community center or the town hall. Costumed children, interactive dances, games, and a moderated stage program characterize the event, which traditionally marks the festive conclusion of Annweiler's carnival season before everything ends on Ash Wednesday.
Annweiler is located in the heart of the Palatinate's Trifels region. The carnival parades in surrounding towns – such as the "Gaudiwurm" (fun parade) in Dahn (February 15, 2026), the carnival parade in Bad Bergzabern, and the sessions in Landau – complement each other to form a dense program of carnival dates. Visitors to Annweiler during carnival can easily experience several Southern Palatinate parades over an extended weekend.
Three dates, three formats: Weiberfasching on Thursday with town hall takeover, street parade on Rose Monday with floats and walking groups, Children's Carnival on Tuesday in the hall. In between, the Trifels region offers further parades in Dahn, Bad Bergzabern, and Landau, allowing visitors to combine several Palatinate carnival events over an extended weekend. The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
