Hamburg's Major Alster Regatta
The Fari Cup is one of Northern Germany's most significant rowing regattas. Every November, the event brings together over 1,500 athletes from Germany and abroad on Hamburg's Alster – in the Hamburg-Nord district.
From the City Canals to the Outer Alster
The races lead through the Alsterfleete, past Hamburg's City Hall, up to the Außenalster (Outer Alster), and end at the boathouse of Ruder Club Favorite Hammonia in the Uhlenhorst district. This course is considered one of the most spectacular urban regatta courses in Europe by rowers: not calm water, but right in the middle of the city.
Fours and Eights
Rowing takes place in the classic team boats: fours and eights, each in several age and performance categories. Clubs from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Poland field teams every year. The traditional Ruder Club Favorite Hammonia is the organizer.
Hamburg's Rowing Tradition
For decades, Hamburg has been one of Germany's most important rowing hubs – the Alster offers a protected training and competition course in the heart of the city. The Fari Cup makes this tradition visible to a broad Hamburg audience: the finish can be perfectly followed from the Uhlenhorster Fährhaus or Schöne Aussicht landing stages.

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Fari Cup will start on Hamburg's Alster. Over 1,500 athletes from European rowing clubs are expected.

Best spectator spots: Schöne Aussicht, Uhlenhorster Fährhaus, Alsterufer along Krugkoppelbrücke.
