An Afternoon in the Gymnasium

The Familiensportfest Mielkendorf brings families of all generations to the village's sports hall for an afternoon. Unlike a traditional club tournament, the format is aimed at all residents — sports enthusiasts and couch potatoes alike, with a focus on communal games and accessible activities.

Lebendiges Mielkendorf as the Driving Force

The organiser is the association Lebendiges Mielkendorf e.V., one of the most active cultural associations in the western commuter belt of Kiel. The association sees itself as a "cultural and social revitalisation of the Mielkendorf community" and curates lectures, village flea markets, readings, summer craft sessions, lantern parades, a living Advent calendar, and the Familiensportfest throughout the year. Cooperation with the local sports club GW Mielkendorf e.V. makes the sports afternoon possible.

Participate, Don't Just Watch

Traditionally, the Familiensportfest includes:

• Equipment courses for children and families
• Game stations with small competitions, more fun than sport
• Participatory activities from adult departments (gymnastics, Zumba, light yoga forms)
• Refreshments with cake, coffee, and drinks — organised by the club buffet
• Social areas for new residents and long-time families

Admission is low-cost or free (see practical information), and the sports activities are deliberately family-friendly.

Mielkendorf and the Rendsburg-Eckernförde District

Mielkendorf is located in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about ten kilometres west of Kiel and directly on the Eider nature area. The community has around 1,000 inhabitants and belongs to the Molfsee administrative district. With the Gut Blockshagen estate, it is also home to an independent cultural venue where several small festivals take place (Fight Cancer Festival, One Louder Festival, Bad to the Stone Festival).
