Largest alternative open-air festival in the Hannover region since 1983 – three stages at the confluence of Ihme and Leine
The Fährmannsfest originated in 1983 from Hannover's squatters' and self-management scene. The organizer has been Fährmannsfest e.V. ever since, which, together with the Kulturzentrum Faust in Linden, operates one of the most important alternative cultural centers in Northern Germany. Over four decades, the Fährmannsfest has developed into a firm meeting point for a cross-generational scene: parents bring their children to see the bands they grew up with themselves.
The festival grounds extend along the bank at the confluence of the Ihme and Leine, where the two rivers merge into the Leine. The Music Stage is the largest and programmatically most important stage. The 'Bunte Bühne' (Colorful Stage) presents singer-songwriters, acoustic sets, spoken word, and smaller bands. The Children's Stage on the Faust meadow offers its own family program and is accessible free of charge.
The 2026 program is already largely known. On the Music Stage, H-Blockx and Lagwagon are announced for Friday, Betontod for Saturday, and Good Riddance, Akne Kid Joe, Alarmsignal, and Butterwegge for Sunday. On the 'Bunte Bühne', Monsters Of Liedermaching will perform on Sunday. Thus, the 2026 festival combines international punk classics with the German political punk scene and singer-songwriter tradition.
The children's festival on the Faust meadow runs on Saturday and Sunday with free admission. It offers concerts for children, interactive stations, play areas, craft activities, and its own catering.
As in previous years, the 2026 Fährmannsfest is designed as a self-managed festival. Stage setup, catering, and awareness teams are largely run by volunteers. The programming follows tradition: international headliners from the punk and hardcore scene meet the regional scene and acts from the political singer-songwriter tradition.
The exact stage times and any further program additions will be published by the organizer in the weeks before the event on faehrmannsfest.de.
