Four days of beer, street food, and music on Kaiserplatz — from Ascension Day to Sunday shopping
Stolberg in the Rhineland — the Copper City — is located in the Aachen district in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is known for its centuries-old copper industry, its medieval castle, and its commitment to cultural renewal after the dramatic flood disaster of 2021. The Euregional Beer Festival is part of this movement: first held as a smaller test in 2024, it will be larger in 2025, and firmly established by 2026.
The festival traditionally begins on Ascension Day (May 14, 2026) and runs until Sunday, May 17. For four consecutive days, Stolberg's Kaiserplatz will host its stages, with fourteen exhibitors and brewers setting up tents, bars, and tasting booths. The offerings focus on the Meuse-Rhine Euregio: beer from the Rhineland, the Aachen region, and the Belgian and Dutch border areas. This is complemented by wines, cocktails, and street food from regional providers.
In the evenings, the stage comes alive — DJs provide disco and party sounds, while live bands cover rock, reggae, and pop. Sunday is explicitly designed as a Family Day: an afternoon for children with interactive stations, mask crafting, and storytelling. Additionally, Stolberg will have its Sunday shopping, combining the beer festival with city center shopping. This makes the festival more than just a beer event: it's a city marketing initiative by Gesellschaft für Stadtmarketing STOLBERG e.V. that revitalizes the city center for several days.
"Euregional" is the term that acknowledges Stolberg's location: the city lies in the tri-border area of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and the region's brewing treasures are also found across borders. Belgian Trappist beers, Dutch witbiers, German Kölsch and Altbier specialties — the beer festival showcases this diversity. Here, you can sample the Euregio's brewing spectrum in one evening without leaving Kaiserplatz.
Stolberg is an independent medium-sized town with nearly 60,000 inhabitants. It belongs to the Aachen district, an administrative unit comprising Aachen and seven surrounding municipalities. Visitors to the beer festival often combine their visit with a stroll through Stolberg's old town with its copper houses, a climb up Stolberg Castle, and a trip to nearby Aachen with its cathedral and Charlemagne's Fountain. This very integration into a culturally rich region makes the festival of supra-regional interest.
