449 Years of Tradition – East Frisia's Largest Schützenfest

In 2026, the Esenser Schützenfest celebrates its 449th edition, making it one of the oldest and largest Volksfeste in East Frisia. From July 10th to 14th, 2026 – Friday to Tuesday – five days of programming will dominate the scene in this East Frisian town. With an impressive lineup of showmen and a classic Schützenfest program, the event attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the region annually.

The Rides 2026

Showmen set up a wide selection of rides on the Schützenplatz (fairgrounds):

The Traditional Schützenfest Program

The Schützenfest follows a fixed program rhythm that has evolved over centuries:

• Friday – Opening ceremony, torchlight procession through the town center
• Saturday – Election of the youth king, dance evening
• Sunday – Grand parade with brass bands, traditional costumes, and floats
• Monday – King's shot, election of the new Schützenkönig (king)
• Tuesday – Children's Day with discounted prices, family program

Opening Hours – Five Days Packed with Events

The opening hours allow for an intensive festival experience:

• Friday 2:30 PM to 2 AM
• Saturday 2 PM to 3 AM
• Sunday 2 PM to 1:30 AM
• Monday 9 AM to 2 AM (early opening for the King's shot)
• Tuesday 2 PM to 1 AM (Children's Day)
