Spring Funfair as the Season Opener

The Emden Easter Market opens the city's festival calendar after the winter break. As a typical German spring funfair, it offers a compact Volksfest with all the classic elements: carousels, a Ferris wheel, dodgems, game stalls, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and food stands. The location on the car park at the Festspielhaus am Wall provides ample space and is well connected to the city center.

Opening Fireworks on the First Evening

A special highlight of the Easter Market is the opening fireworks on the first evening (April 2nd, 2026, around 9 PM), which officially heralds the start of the spring fair. The fireworks are also visible beyond the immediate market area and attract many onlookers to the surrounding streets.

Opening Hours and Good Friday

The market is open daily from approx. 2 PM to 10 PM. On Good Friday (April 3rd, 2026), the market is closed for religious reasons – a regulation common in many German federal states for spring funfair events. Operations resume on Easter Saturday and conclude on Easter Monday, April 6th, 2026.

Organization and Tradition

The organizer is the Association of Traveling Showmen of East Frisia (Verein reisender Schausteller Ostfriesland e.V.), which is also responsible for other public market formats in the region (including May Market, Schützenfest). The cooperation with the City of Emden ensures smooth approval and infrastructure processes. Admission to the market grounds is free; payment is only for rides, food, and drinks.
