Mönchengladbach's culinary, musical, and artistic mile – three days of city festival on the former city border between Mönchengladbach and Rheydt
Mönchengladbach, with around 260,000 inhabitants, is the largest city on the left bank of the Lower Rhine and, according to NRW logic, a bipolar city: two historic city centers (Mönchengladbach-Mitte with Hugo-Junkers-Platz/Münster and Rheydt with Marktplatz/Stadtwald) were merged in 1975. To this day, both districts maintain their own identities. The EineStadt-Fest is the symbolic and very concrete answer to this: a city festival that takes place precisely on the former city border – Brucknerallee, Richard-Wagner-Straße, Breite Straße – as a festival mile, thus connecting the two districts.
For three days, the format is a gigantic open-air living room:
The former city border between MG and Rheydt runs through an area that is now largely mixed urban development between Brucknerallee and Richard-Wagner-Straße. This axis is precisely what the festival closes off for three days and uses for stages, stalls, and food trucks. This is more than just a logistical choice: the festival sets a symbolic statement for the inner unification of the major city.
The organizer since the first edition in 2005 has been the association Campus e.V., a coalition of Mönchengladbach citizens, cultural creators, and business partners. Premium sponsors are Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach and NEW AG. 2026 marks the 22nd edition – the festival is now a firm fixture in the regional summer calendar.
Mönchengladbach is located in the left-bank Lower Rhine region near the Dutch border and is an independent city. The city is known as the home of Borussia Mönchengladbach (football Bundesliga), its textile industry tradition (from pre-war times to the Hugo Junkers tradition), a university location (Hochschule Niederrhein), and a city of hospitals. The EineStadt-Fest, alongside Borussia's matches and Carnival, is the city's largest public event.
The 2026 edition continues the established tradition: Brucknerallee, Richard-Wagner-Straße, and Breite Straße become the festival mile. Several stages along the axis, food trucks from around the world, KidsWorld on Saturday and Sunday, arts and crafts market throughout. Organizer Campus e.V., premium sponsors Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach and NEW AG.
Free admission. Food and drinks payable at food trucks and bars. Card payment possible at most stalls.
By train to Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof or Rheydt Hauptbahnhof – the festival grounds are located between both stations, about a 10-minute walk from each. By car via the A52 or A61, then federal roads to the city center. Brucknerallee and Breite Straße are closed during the festival – Park-and-Ride is recommended.
Admission is free on all three days.
Friday from 6 p.m. (live program until 10 p.m.). Saturday from 12 p.m. (program until 10 p.m.). Sunday from 11 a.m. (program until 7:30 p.m.).
Food trucks with international cuisines, bars, ice cream stands, arts and crafts market. Card payment at most stalls, cash as backup. KidsWorld with bouncy castle and face painting on Saturday and Sunday.
The main stage on Sunday afternoon is often the most crowded – arrive early. If you want to wait for specific acts: check the program schedule beforehand at einestadtfest.net. Wear weather-appropriate clothing – the festival takes place in all weather conditions.
