17th edition of the biennial Eifel literature festival – Caroline Wahl, Joachim Meyerhoff and Stefanie Stahl at the Stadthalle Bitburg from March to April 2026.
The Eifel-Literatur-Festival is one of the largest and most renowned literary festivals in Rhineland-Palatinate. It takes place every two years and is supported by the association lit.eifel. The 17th edition in 2026 continues the tradition of bringing authors of the highest caliber to the Eifel and making them accessible to a broad audience through readings, talks, and discussions.
The Stadthalle Bitburg is one of the central venues of the festival. For 2026, three high-profile readings have been confirmed in Bitburg: Caroline Wahl reads on March 6th, 2026, followed by Joachim Meyerhoff on March 20th, 2026, and Stefanie Stahl on April 24th, 2026. The Bitburg programme thus covers the spectrum of the festival – from the young, multi-award-winning novelist Caroline Wahl to the actor-writer Joachim Meyerhoff and the bestselling psychologist Stefanie Stahl.
lit.eifel is the organizing association of the festival and conceives the programme anew every two years. Readings are held in various towns in the Eifel, primarily Bitburg, Prüm, and Gerolstein. The festival thus serves as a connecting cultural element for the entire Eifel region, situated between the Rhenish lowlands and the Luxembourg border.
Tickets starting from €29.60 are available in advance. Sales began in November 2025; many readings are typically sold out early. Tickets can be purchased via the official website lit-eifel.de and local advance booking offices.
The Eifel-Literatur-Festival looks back on a long tradition. Founded in the 1990s, its aim has always been to foster contemporary literature in a region outside the major metropolises. Today, it is a central cultural anchor for the identity of the Eifel and is jointly supported by the state, municipalities, and sponsors.
The 17th edition of the Eifel-Literatur-Festival features a particularly prominent selection of authors. In Bitburg, the programme focuses on three readings in the spring of 2026 at the Stadthalle.
Caroline Wahl, one of the most acclaimed young voices in contemporary German literature with her novels "22 Bahnen" and "Windstärke 17", opens the Bitburg festival season on March 6th. This is followed on March 20th by Joachim Meyerhoff, actor and author of the novel series "Alle Toten fliegen hoch", with a reading from his current work. The Bitburg finale on April 24th features bestselling psychologist Stefanie Stahl reading from her latest non-fiction book.
The Eifel-Literatur-Festival will also take place in Prüm and Gerolstein in 2026. The full programme will be published on lit-eifel.de.
