„The Biggest on the Rhine” — Bavarian Volksfest with a festival tent, Lederhosen, and stars like Mickie Krause and Mia Julia on the Schützenplatz Eller
For those who can't make it to Munich, Düsseldorf is the place to be: From Thursday, September 10th, to Saturday, September 26th, 2026, the Schützenplatz Eller will transform into what the organizers confidently call „the biggest on the Rhine”. 17 days of Düsseldorfer Oktoberfest with a large festival tent, chicken stations, gingerbread hearts, Maßkrugs (liter steins), and a star parade that rivals Munich's Oide Wiesn.
The 2026 lineup continues the Rhenish tradition of the Düsseldorfer Oktoberfest: loud, party-ready, with names every party music fan knows:
All themed evenings are accompanied by the house band Waidler Power, who provide the classic Wiesn sound between the star performances: from „Cordula Grün” to „Layla”, from tapping marches to sing-along Schlager.
The centerpiece is the large festival tent in the classic Bavarian style: long rows of tables, a stage in the middle, beer service at several counters. For those who prefer a quieter atmosphere, the LECKERBOCK beer garden offers an open setting with a lower noise level, ideal for families in the early evening.
Culinary delights: Hendl (roast chicken), Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Weißwurst (white sausage) with sweet mustard and Brez'n (pretzels), Obatzda (cheese spread), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick). A Maß of beer (1 liter) served from Franconian/Bavarian kegs.
VIP table reservations, including food and drink packages, are limited and sell out quickly, especially for the opening nights and major star events. Organizers recommend booking early via the official website. Standard entry to the tent is usually free, with an extra charge for reserved seating.
The Schützenplatz in the Eller district (Düsseldorf-South) is a traditional Volksfest site in the city — well-connected by the S-Bahn (lines S6/S68) and with ample parking nearby. The grounds have been home to the Düsseldorfer Oktoberfest for decades and are a fixed autumn tradition for many Düsseldorf residents, like the Kirmes on the Rhine in summer or the Karneval parade in February.
It's a charming paradox of Rhenish beer culture: Düsseldorf, a stronghold of top-fermented Altbier, invites everyone in September to celebrate the bottom-fermented Bavarian Helles beer. The festival tent at Schützenplatz thus becomes a cultural crossover — and proof that Rhenish joie de vivre embraces all beer origins.
