Fun Run with Railway Tradition
The DRK Molli-Lauf was initiated in 2012 by the DRK district association Bad Doberan e.V. and is now one of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's most popular fun runs on Labour Day. The start and finish are at the Bad Doberan monastery grounds (Klosterhof 3, car park at the monastery ruins).
Three Distances Along the Mollispur Track
Three running routes are available: 3 km, 6 km, and 12 km. They lead along the track of the historic narrow-gauge railway "Molli", which has been running between Bad Doberan and the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm since 1886. Those who run 3 or 6 km can take the Molli back – the train ticket is included in the entry fee. Additionally, there is a hiking route between Heiligendamm and the monastery grounds.
Start Times and Supporting Programme
Registration and collection of race numbers start at 8 am on the monastery grounds. The 3 km route starts at 10:50 am, the 6 and 12 km routes at 11 am. Drinks and medical support are provided along the route. A colourful family programme accompanies the event on the monastery grounds: DJ Falo, performances by the "Dance Factory Rostock", a bouncy castle, and face painting for children.
Regional Context
Bad Doberan is located in the district of Rostock (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania); the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm is considered the "First German Seaside Resort" (founded in 1793). The Molli railway track between the two locations runs for about 6 km through forests and fields. The Molli-Lauf thus combines athletic experience, historic railway ambience, and cultural landmarks.
