Harvest festival and legendary Trabi rally in Burgenlandkreis
The first Dreschfest Loitzschütz took place from September 20th to 22nd, 1991 – an event that emerged directly after reunification from the need to preserve harvest customs and the then-dying practice of threshing in farmyards. Over three decades later, the festival is firmly established: 33rd edition in 2024, 34th edition in 2025, and the 35th edition will run in early September 2026. The organizer is the Dreschverein Loitzschütz e.V., which maintains the festival grounds on Heuckewalder Straße.
Since 1993, the Trabi Rally has been the festival's hallmark. The rules are strict: only vehicles of the Trabant brand, original engine (two-stroke), and original gearbox – no modifications. This attracts two-stroke enthusiasts from all over the Burgenlandkreis, from Thuringia, and Saxony. On the circuit course through the grounds, roof landings, extreme angles, and general spectacle are regular occurrences – folk motorsport in the best sense.
Outside of the rally hours, the festival runs as a classic folk festival: carousel, Ferris wheel, festival tent with live music, street food, and sales stands from local clubs. In the evening, there is traditionally a fireworks display – one of the highlights of the year in Gutenborn.
The municipality of Gutenborn is located in the Burgenlandkreis in southern Saxony-Anhalt, east of Zeitz and near the state borders with Thuringia and Saxony. Loitzschütz is one of over 20 districts that were merged into the larger municipality of Gutenborn after administrative reforms. The association thus keeps a piece of village tradition alive on behalf of the entire region.
In 2026, the Dreschfest Loitzschütz will continue its tradition of over 30 years. The date announcement is usually made by the association in early summer; based on experience, the first or second weekend of September is likely. The program structure will be similar to previous years: three days of folk festival activities, Trabi rally on Saturday, and fireworks on Saturday evening.
The Trabi Rally will be in its 33rd edition in 2026 – a small anniversary within the Dreschfest itself. Only original Trabant vehicles with original engines and gearboxes are permitted.
