After the end of the parade at the dispersal point, participants and guests move to the Draiser Sporthalle, where the Draiser Carneval Club organizes a carnival party with live music, a DJ, carnival hits, and refreshments. Mainz-Drais, with its approximately 4,000 inhabitants, is one of the smaller districts of Mainz, located in the west of the city high on the Lerchenberg plateau between Finthen, Lerchenberg, and Marienborn. Despite its proximity to the big city, Drais has retained its village character: a manageable main street, the old village center around the parish church, an active club scene, and a strong sense of community. This atmosphere also characterizes the annual Draiser Fastnachtszug on Shrove Tuesday.
The organizer is the Draiser Carneval Club, one of the local carnival clubs that organizes seated events, children's carnival, and other carnival formats throughout the year. Its highlight in the annual calendar is the district parade on Shrove Tuesday: the only street carnival event in Mainz in Drais. The parade starts at the typical carnival time of 2:11 PM at the meeting point Daniel-Brendel-Straße, near Ristorante Roseto da Nico, and winds its way through the central streets of the district.
Compared to the large Mainz parades like the Rosenmontagszug or the larger district parades (e.g., AKK in Kastel-Kostheim), the Draiser Fastnachtszug is small: usually 15 to 25 parade numbers, a few hundred spectators along the route. Precisely this intimate character is its special appeal. Floats are built by Drais families, the fire department, the sports club, the primary school, the kindergarten, and neighborhood groups. Guards of the Draiser Carneval Club march in uniform, and music bands accompany the parade. Children on the roadside catch candy and small bouquets, neighbors call to each other from door to door, and many participants have known each other for years or decades.
After the end of the parade, the Draiser Dienstagsfastnacht continues in the local sports hall. Here, the Draiser Carneval Club organizes a party with live music, a DJ, carnival songs, and refreshments, attended by Drais families, club members, and guests from outside the district. The transition from the parade to the party – a short walk, familiar faces, the same district as the stage – makes Draiser Dienstagsfastnacht a cohesive, intense carnival day that preserves the village roots of Mainz's district carnival.
