About Dragon Boat Friedland

The Dragon Boat Spectacle in the Friedland outdoor pool, in its third edition in 2026, is a popular summer event in the Mecklenburg Lake District. Clubs, companies, groups of friends, and spontaneous water lovers compete against each other in teams. What began in 2024 as a sporting idea by TSV Friedland 1814 has developed into a family festival with action, laughter, and good spirits – one of the few regional dragon boat events of its kind in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

About the Event

The Friedland Dragon Boat Spectacle is a comparatively young but rapidly growing sports and family event held in the Friedland outdoor pool. The organizer is TSV Friedland 1814, one of the oldest sports clubs in the region. What started as an idea for an extraordinary summer sports festival has, after two editions, become a summer highlight with a family atmosphere.

Format

It is a dragon boat race in the outdoor pool where teams compete against each other. Anyone can participate:

  • Company teams
  • Clubs
  • Groups of friends
  • Spontaneous water lovers

Registration is via email to [email protected], with the registration deadline usually at the end of April.

Atmosphere

Unlike many large dragon boat events on big lakes or rivers, the Friedland spectacle takes place in the manageable outdoor pool – meaning short distances, good visibility for spectators, and very direct, loud competition. Spectators can cheer from the poolside, while sausages, fries, and drinks provide a Volksfest (traditional folk festival) atmosphere.

Regional Context

Friedland is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, on the border with Brandenburg, and is a main railway station on the Berlin–Stralsund line. The town is manageable (around 6,000 inhabitants) and particularly suitable for events of this nature: club life, the outdoor pool as a central facility, and a committed local community.
