Kites, Wind, and Island Atmosphere

Drachenzauber Langeoog is a classic kite festival on the German North Sea coast – and one of the most charming dates in the kite calendar. The East Frisian island of Langeoog, with its wide sandy beach and reliable wind, offers ideal conditions for kite sports. On August 22 and 23, 2026, kite athletes from all over Germany will gather on the Sportstrand Langeoog.

Kite Sports in All Their Variety

The range of kites is broad:

• Giant Kites: Themed kites in the shape of animals, comic characters, or geometric sculptures, soaring meters high
• Stunt Kites: Sport equipment with two or four lines, artfully choreographed in the sky
• Kite Ballets: Choreographed group performances with multiple stunt kites
• Classic Kites: Traditional single-line models for all ages
• Art Kites: Handmade unique pieces made of fabric, bamboo, and carbon

Spectacle on the Sportstrand

The Sportstrand Langeoog is a spacious beach section reserved for sporting activities, offering enough room for a kite festival of this magnitude. Several areas will be set up:

• Show Area for giant and themed kites
• Competition Area for kite ballets and sporting competitions
• Family Area with hands-on activities and kite-flying instructions
• Sales Area with kite vendors and accessories

Family Program and Hands-On Activities

The kite festival is family-friendly. Children can fly their own kites under the guidance of experienced kite flyers, and craft stations offer the opportunity to make their own small kite. This makes the festival an all-day family event that appeals to all age groups.

Photo Spectacle

Drachenzauber is also a photo spectacle. Giant colorful kites floating against a blue sky, the vast beach, the distant sea – the images created here are a hallmark of island photography. Anyone visiting Langeoog in August should have their camera ready.

Travel and Dates

Langeoog is accessible by ferry from Bensersiel. The kite festival runs throughout Saturday and Sunday – exact program times will be published by the organizer in advance. Free admission.
