A festival of encounter in Wiesbaden's Dotzheim district with music, AI experiences, and family activities
The Sauerlandpark is located in Wiesbaden's Dotzheim district, the largest district by area in the Hessian state capital. Between apartment buildings, family facilities, and the Sauerlandschule, the park forms a green center for a neighborhood characterized by the diversity of its residents. This is precisely where the neighborhood festival comes in: it's not primarily entertainment, but a format that brings neighbors together and enables low-threshold encounters for local politics.
Behind the festival is the Kinder- und Beratungs-Zentrum Sauerland (KBS), a Wiesbaden social work institution that supports families in the neighborhood year-round. Together with partners such as the Sauerlandschule, the Jugendzentrum Trafohaus, local kindergartens, and clubs like TuS Dotzheim, the KBS organizes a five-hour stage program annually.
The neighborhood festival places great emphasis on inclusion: sign language interpreters translate all stage speeches and performances. On the meadow, there are play activities for children (crate climbing, face painting, giant games), while parents can chat over international cuisine from the neighborhood initiatives' stands. Representatives of the city administration and the district council use the festival to connect directly with residents.
In 2026, the neighborhood festival will place a special emphasis on future technologies. An interactive "Future Workshop" will showcase AI experiences for young and old, and the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts will provide virtual reality stations where visitors can experience modern vocational training professions, from carpentry to mechatronics, in three dimensions. This gives the traditional neighborhood festival a programmatic focus on education and career orientation.
Dotzheim was incorporated into Wiesbaden in 1929 and today has around 25,000 inhabitants. The Sauerlandpark, as a social meeting point, is located in a neighborhood shaped by post-war housing, which has received strong neighborhood management through the KBS and the Sauerlandschule. The neighborhood festival is a reflection of this concept: neighborhood work, education, and celebration in one place.
The 2026 edition is themed "Encounter and Diversity". The stage program runs from 3 PM to 8 PM, with hands-on stations and advisory services from neighborhood initiatives running in parallel. Sign language interpreters will translate all stage contributions.
