New concept — three concert evenings in three extraordinary Dorsten locations between Lippetal, Barkenberg and Östrich, June 16 to July 18, 2026
The Dorsten Summer of Culture celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026 — and uses the anniversary year for a concept reset: instead of many small concerts spread throughout the summer, the organizers present three carefully curated events in three extraordinary locations. Organized by StadtAgentur Dorsten, supported by Vereinte Volksbank.
The opening concert on June 16, 2026, brings one of the most renowned big band ensembles in the Federal Republic to the Lippe River: the Big Band of the Bundeswehr will perform at Lippetal — a natural backdrop directly on the water, with a special acoustic effect. Repertoire: Classic big band standards (Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington), contemporary arrangements, film music, Schlager adaptations. One of the most prestigious concerts of the Dorsten summer.
The second date on July 11, 2026, will take place in the Cultural Garden Barkenberg — a green oasis in a Dorsten district that combines local club life and culture. The exact program will be announced by StadtAgentur in advance.
The closing concert on July 18, 2026, will be held at the Östrich site — another Dorsten district with a special atmosphere. This way, the 2026 Summer of Culture is distributed throughout the entire city area of Dorsten, strongly emphasizing its local character.
The reduction from many small events to three curated highlights follows a clear concept: less, but better. Each date is intended to be its own event, given its own character and stage. The choice of locations (Lippetal, Cultural Garden, Östrich) combines Dorsten's natural scenery (on the Lippe, on the Wesel-Datteln Canal, in Hohe Mark) with the district identities of the central municipality in the Recklinghausen district.
Admission to all three concerts is free. The organizers request donations for volunteer engagement in Dorsten — a central element of the concept. This way, the proceeds flow back to local volunteer projects.
With around 75,000 inhabitants, Dorsten is a central municipality in the northern Recklinghausen district, at the transition from the Ruhr area to Münsterland. Located on the Lippe River and the Wesel-Datteln Canal, with the Hohe Mark Nature Park as its hinterland. The Summer of Culture is one of the city's most important cultural initiatives — and the actual summer highlight of StadtAgentur Dorsten.
The 10th edition in 2026 adopts a focused format: three curated concert evenings in three extraordinary locations.
