Hollsteitz — a village in Burgenlandkreis

Hollsteitz is a district of the municipality of Kretzschau in Burgenlandkreis (AGS 15084), located in southern Saxony-Anhalt near the border with Saxony and Thuringia. A region characterised by agricultural tradition, with Saale-Unstrut wine cultivation a few kilometres to the west. Hollsteitz itself is small, but village life is intact — maintained by dedicated residents who have joined forces as the initiative "Dorfleben Hollsteitz".

What makes a village festival

The village festival follows the pattern of many village festivals in Saxony-Anhalt: a marquee or an open-air stage in the centre of the village, a bar run by local clubs, a dance floor, live music from the region (typically cover bands or DJs), a tombola, a children's area with a bouncy castle, a barbecue stand, coffee and homemade cake. Sunday mornings often feature a "Frühschoppen" (morning pint) with brass band music. The festival is family-friendly, the atmosphere informal, and it's a place where neighbours meet before the city disperses its citizens to the sea or mountains every summer.

Getting there and combining

Travel from Leipzig or Halle in 45 minutes by car. Those who want to combine the village festival with a wine weekend can then drive to the Saale-Unstrut region (Freyburg, Naumburg, Bad Kösen) — Saxony-Anhalt at its most regional.
