Oldest village and street festival at the Radrennbahn-Parkplatz — Oberhausen-Rheinhausen
The Dorf- und Straßenfest in Oberhausen, a district of the municipality of Oberhausen-Rheinhausen, is considered one of the oldest village festivals in the area, according to the organizers. It takes place annually on the first weekend of August — in 2026, this means on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day. The organizer is the Arbeitskreis der Ortsvereine Oberhausen — meaning not a single association, but the entire Oberhausen association landscape working together.
The concept is classic and heartfelt: The Oberhausen associations — music association, sports clubs, fire department, heritage societies — set up their stands in the Radrennbahn-Parkplatz. Each association has its specialty: one grills steaks and sausages, another serves Baden specialties, a third pours wine from the Kraichgau region, a fourth offers sweets and coffee. The money stays within the association and finances its work throughout the year. Music associations provide background music, often with live performances during the evening.
Unlike the large city festivals in the region (Stadtfest Karlsruhe, Rheinhausener Tabakfest, etc.), the Oberhausen village festival remains small and personal: You know the servers, you know the bands, the atmosphere is familiar. That's its charm — a village festival in the best sense, without a mass crowd, with space for families and children. The car park at the cycle racing track is large enough for all stands and yet remains manageable.
The municipality of Oberhausen-Rheinhausen, with its districts Oberhausen and Rheinhausen, is located directly on the Rhine, about 30 km west of Karlsruhe. It belongs to the Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg and has around 9,500 inhabitants. The region is characterized by tobacco cultivation, asparagus cultivation, and Rhine floodplains — and by a vibrant association life, which is showcased anew every year at the village festival.
Over two festival days, the Oberhausen associations celebrate their traditional village festival. Stands from the associations form a circle around the Radrennbahn-Parkplatz, each with its own specialty. Accompanying music and family program throughout the evenings.
