About Dötlinger GartenKultour

The Dötlinger GartenKultour is an open tour through private gardens, artists' studios, galleries, nurseries, and farms in the artists' village of Dötlingen. Three times a year, around 21 hosts open their gates and invite visitors to discover, buy, and enjoy. Arts and crafts, regional specialties, live music, and inspiration for one's own garden combine in the characteristic landscape of the Wildeshauser Geest to create a relaxed summer excursion. The Dötlinger-GartenKultour e.V. association is the organizer, supporting this format successfully for years.

An Artists' Village Opens Its Doors

Dötlingen is considered one of the oldest artists' villages in Northern Germany. As early as the end of the 19th century, painters from the Worpswede School and the Düsseldorf Academy settled here, attracted by the rich landscape of the Wildeshauser Geest, by old farm oaks, hedgerows, and the wide Hunte floodplain. The Dötlinger GartenKultour builds on this tradition and makes the artistic heritage accessible to the public three times a year.

Gardens, Studios, and Courtyards as Exhibition Spaces

On the three event days, around 21 hosts open their private gardens, workshops, studios, galleries, nurseries, and farms. Visitors can discover artworks, ceramics, textile works, jewelry, plants, regional food products, and much more. Musical performances are also regularly part of the program, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the gardens.

Inspiration and Encounters

The GartenKultour is more than just a sales event: it is a forum for encounters between artists, garden lovers, and travelers, a vibrant meeting point for the village's cultural scene, and an economic stimulus for regional direct marketing. Those who spend their summer days in the Wildeshauser Geest will find a relaxed program for exploring and lingering.

Three Dates a Year

The Dötlinger GartenKultour traditionally takes place on three Sundays a year. The series kicks off in early summer on the third Sunday in June. There are also further editions in late summer and autumn, each with different focuses.

Dötlinger GartenKultour — edition 2026

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, around 21 hosts in Dötlingen will open their private gardens, studios, galleries, nurseries, and farms from 11 AM to 5 PM. The early summer edition of the Dötlinger GartenKultour presents a diverse range of arts and crafts, regional products, plants, and music. Admission is free. The organizer is the Dötlinger-GartenKultour e.V. association, which hosts the event three times a year.

The early summer 2026 edition falls on the third Sunday in June and is traditionally the most popular date of the series. For six hours, guests can stroll through Dötlingen, wander from garden to studio, and discover not only arts and crafts and regional specialties but also the special atmosphere of the artists' village.

A map with all participating locations will be published on the association's website before the event begins and will also be available in Dötlingen on the day of the event.
