Private gardens, studios, and courtyards open their doors in the artists' village of Dötlingen
Dötlingen is considered one of the oldest artists' villages in Northern Germany. As early as the end of the 19th century, painters from the Worpswede School and the Düsseldorf Academy settled here, attracted by the rich landscape of the Wildeshauser Geest, by old farm oaks, hedgerows, and the wide Hunte floodplain. The Dötlinger GartenKultour builds on this tradition and makes the artistic heritage accessible to the public three times a year.
On the three event days, around 21 hosts open their private gardens, workshops, studios, galleries, nurseries, and farms. Visitors can discover artworks, ceramics, textile works, jewelry, plants, regional food products, and much more. Musical performances are also regularly part of the program, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the gardens.
The GartenKultour is more than just a sales event: it is a forum for encounters between artists, garden lovers, and travelers, a vibrant meeting point for the village's cultural scene, and an economic stimulus for regional direct marketing. Those who spend their summer days in the Wildeshauser Geest will find a relaxed program for exploring and lingering.
The Dötlinger GartenKultour traditionally takes place on three Sundays a year. The series kicks off in early summer on the third Sunday in June. There are also further editions in late summer and autumn, each with different focuses.
The early summer 2026 edition falls on the third Sunday in June and is traditionally the most popular date of the series. For six hours, guests can stroll through Dötlingen, wander from garden to studio, and discover not only arts and crafts and regional specialties but also the special atmosphere of the artists' village.
A map with all participating locations will be published on the association's website before the event begins and will also be available in Dötlingen on the day of the event.
Program updates and the location map will be published in good time on doetlinger-gartenkultour.de.
