43rd Traditional Market in the Ihrhove district with market stalls and running competition
The Bottermarkt Ihrhove is a fixture in the event calendar of the municipality of Westoverledingen and, in its 43rd edition in 2026, looks back on a long tradition. The name "Bottermarkt" refers to its original function as a butter market – a nod to the historical importance of dairy farming in southern East Frisia.
Market stalls fill the centre of Ihrhove throughout the weekend. Crafts, regional specialities, food and sales stands, a festival tent with catering, and amusement rides for families characterise the scene. The programme is supported by the local Bottermarkt committee and participating associations.
A likeable special feature is the Bottermarkt Run on Sunday, June 27th, 2026. Races of 5 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and a children's run are offered. Thus, the market combines the classic folk festival structure with a popular sports format that attracts families from the region and runners from southern East Frisia.
Ihrhove is a district of the municipality of Westoverledingen and is easily accessible via the country roads of the Leer district. During the market weekend, parts of the town centre will be closed for the market and festival activities; parking facilities will be signposted in the surrounding area.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format of a combined market and running event. While market stalls, the festival tent, and amusement rides occupy the town centre, the Bottermarkt Run offers a sporting component over the weekend, with registration via raceresult.com.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the Bottermarkt committee in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Friday, June 26th to Saturday, June 27th, 2026. Bottermarkt Run on Saturday/Sunday, June 27th, 2026.
Ihrhove Town Centre (Municipality of Westoverledingen, 26810).
