Safe Swimming Hands-On Festival on the Baltic Sea Beach
The DLRG/NIVEA Beach Festival is Germany's largest water safety tour. The festival stops at around 20 locations each year – predominantly on the North and Baltic Seas, with occasional stops on inland lakes – teaching children and families swimming rules, self-rescue, first aid, and respectful interaction with the sea. In Juliusruh, with its shallow, wide sandy beach, the concept finds ideal conditions.
Several stations are set up on the festival grounds: a swimming rules course, rescue equipment to touch, a first aid workshop, a bouncy castle, face painting, and games. Up to 1,000 blue NIVEA beach balls are distributed per location; in a joint flash mob, the beach is transformed into a blue sea. Each child takes a small souvenir home. Admission is free, and the beach festival usually lasts about three hours in the afternoon.
Juliusruh is a district of the municipality of Breege on the northern Wittow peninsula, Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Its 9 km long sandy beach between Schaabe and the cliff coast is one of the most beautiful beach sections on the southern Baltic Sea. The DLRG has a traditional presence here – in lifeguard towers during the high season and as the organizer of the beach festival, which perfectly combines educational tasks and family fun.
The 2026 edition joins the nationwide beach festival tour of the DLRG and stops on August 22 at the wide sandy beach of Juliusruh. Several stations with an educational and playful character will be set up: a bouncy castle, a swimming rules course, rescue equipment to touch, first aid exercises, and hands-on activities for children aged 4 and up.
The highlight is the flash mob, where up to 1,000 blue NIVEA beach balls are distributed, transforming the beach into a "sea of blue." Each child takes a souvenir home. The exact start time and full program will be announced in advance on the DLRG tour page and on the notice boards of the municipality of Breege.
