Wine, Views, and Enjoyment in the Steep Slopes on Mother's Day
The Culinary Wine Experience on Mother's Day in Leutesdorf is one of the most charming wine events on the Middle Rhine. Instead of being confined to a fixed festival area, the wine village opens up its steep Gartenlay and Forstberg slopes, allowing visitors to stroll among the vines with a glass in hand. This staging in nature, high above the Rhine, gives the event its special appeal.
The vintners of Leutesdorf primarily cultivate Riesling and Pinot Noir in the Gartenlay and Forstberg slopes, along with other classic Middle Rhine varieties. On Mother's Day, stalls are set up directly in the vineyards, allowing guests to taste the wines right where the grapes grow. The vintners are available for conversations and explain the specifics of their plots, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
Complementing the wines, culinary specialties are offered at various stations. The range extends from hearty delicacies to fine foods that pair particularly well with Riesling and Pinot Noir. Especially on Mother's Day, the festival is popular as an unusual outing with the family, distinctly different from a classic restaurant visit.
The event can be ideally combined with a hike. Marked trails through the vineyards lead to viewpoints with panoramic views of the Rhine and the villages on the opposite bank. Those starting from Leutesdorf can reach the first stalls after a short climb. Sturdy footwear is recommended. The all-day opening from 11 am until sunset allows you to set your own pace and enjoy the changing light over the river.
The Culinary Wine Experience is one of the most established formats in Leutesdorf's event calendar. It belongs to a series of recurring wine occasions that the wine village on the right bank of the Middle Rhine offers throughout the year.
The 2026 edition takes place as usual on Mother's Day and follows the proven concept: all-day opening of the slopes, wine from the producer, and suitable culinary offerings in the open air. The individual stations are spread across the two slopes, Gartenlay and Forstberg, allowing for a relaxed circular route.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: reception in the village center, ascent into the vineyards, tasting stations in the slopes, and a atmospheric conclusion at sunset over the Rhine.
The exact selection of participating vintners, food stations, and culinary offerings will be communicated by the municipality of Leutesdorf in advance.
