Autumn festival at Torplatz with pumpkin culinary delights, children's activities, and neighborhood charm
The Magdeburg district of Diesdorf is located in the far west of the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, on the border with the Magdeburger Börde. A quiet, almost village-like quarter with its own club life – and for some years now, an autumn festival that draws the neighborhood to Torplatz: the Diesdorf Pumpkin Festival. Organized by the Bürger- und Heimatverein Magdeburg-Diesdorf e.V. together with the Diesdorf Volunteer Fire Department and the Schrotekids daycare center, it is one of the loveliest small autumn festivals in the state capital.
The focus is, of course, on the pumpkins: ornamental and edible pumpkins from regional cultivation, pumpkin soup, pumpkin cake, pumpkin bread – those who love Hokkaido and Butternut will be happy here. In addition, the volunteer fire department grills sausages, serves coffee and mulled wine, and provides a fire truck for the children to admire. Stick bread over an open fire and a cup cake from the club's baking round off the culinary offerings.
For the children, there is a pumpkin rally with small prizes, craft stations with autumn leaves, and face painting with all sorts of Halloween motifs. Parents can relax with a glass of mulled wine while the little ones wander from stall to stall. The atmosphere is familiar and uncomplicated – all participants are volunteers from the district who organize the festival with great care and without commercial pressure.
The Citizens' and Heritage Association has been organizing the Pumpkin Festival every year in October at Torplatz Diesdorf since 2022. Together with the traditional Schrotefest in summer, it is the second major highlight in the association's year and an important meeting point for the residents of Diesdorf. Those who want to get to know Magdeburg beyond the well-known city center highlights will find an authentic district festival here, the kind that can only arise through neighborhood engagement.
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Citizens' and Heritage Association Magdeburg-Diesdorf e.V. invites you to the annual Pumpkin Festival at Torplatz. Planned are a sale of regional ornamental and edible pumpkins, pumpkin soup and pumpkin cake from the club's baking, bratwurst and mulled wine from the Diesdorf Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a children's program with a pumpkin rally, crafts, face painting, and stick bread over an open fire.
