17th Deistertag on Mother's Day in Barsinghausen – Nature experience for the whole family with Klosterstollen show mine, live music, and vintage car rides
The Deister, with its approximately 26 km length and forested heights, is the largest contiguous forest area in the south of the Hannover region. Barsinghausen, located on the northern slope, is uniquely connected to the Deister – historically through mining, today through tourism, sports, and recreation. The Deistertag celebrates this connection annually with a family-friendly festival day.
The heart of the festival is the Klosterstollen show mine. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of historical hard coal mining – through guided tours, exhibitions, and an authentic tunnel system. The Klosterstollen is one of the most important technical monuments in the region and is open on Deistertag from 10 am to 5 pm.
Since Deistertag 2026 falls on Mother's Day, all mothers will receive a special treat: seed paper postcards as a small, sustainable Mother's Day gift.
The Deistertag is intended as an accessible nature experience that aims to inspire families about the region. Nature experience, industrial history, outdoor activity, and children's programs go hand in hand. The city of Barsinghausen particularly invites families from the entire Hannover region.
The 17th edition of the Deistertag combines mining history with nature experience and a family program. The complete program will be published by the city of Barsinghausen.
