4th TAMM at Kloster Medingen — historical instruments and international top ensembles with the motto 'Experiencing Music, Not Just Hearing It'
Kloster Medingen is one of the six Lüneburg Heath monasteries where evangelical nuns have lived since the late Middle Ages. These monasteries preserve a unique tradition of spiritual, cultural, and social practice. With their medieval architectural heritage, their specific spaces such as the nuns' choir and refectory, and their monastic culture still actively lived today, they are extraordinary concert venues for early music.
TAMM was founded in 2023 and celebrates its fourth edition in 2026. In just a few years, the festival has established itself as a serious player in the German early music scene. The combination of internationally renowned performers and the special monastic setting has quickly made the festival well-known.
The renowned flutist and university professor Peter Holtslag is the curator of TAMM. Holtslag is a central figure in the international early music scene and guarantees artistic quality and thematic coherence with his programming. As a soloist and ensemble member, he is active internationally on concert stages.
The motto 'Experiencing Music, Not Just Hearing It' describes the festival's approach to its program. Concerts are not just understood as passive listening events, but as experiential formats that incorporate the spaces, their history, and the specific performance situations.
Three concert spaces are used: the nuns' choir — the former performance space of the nuns, acoustically and atmospherically exceptional; the refectory — the sisters' dining hall with magnificent furnishings; and the monastery church as the main sacred space. Each room offers its own acoustic and atmospheric characteristics.
Performances are given on historical instruments — harpsichords, chamber organs, baroque flutes, baroque violin and cello, theorbo, and lute. The invited ensembles belong to the international top tier of the early music scene.
Already on June 6th, 2026, there will be a preliminary concert with Trio Ripasso, with free admission. On June 12th, a preview film screening will introduce the festival themes.
In four years, TAMM has established itself as a serious player in the German early music scene.
Works, ensembles, and concert time slots will be published by the organizer.
