Berlin's Dark Season Kicks Off at Lido
The Dark Spring Festival is one of Berlin's established specialty festivals that sharpen the capital's profile between techno mainstream and niche cult events. Instead of a large open-air stage, it deliberately focuses on club intimacy: the venue is the Lido on Cuvrystraße in Berlin-Kreuzberg – a former cinema with a manageable capacity, allowing for close proximity between bands and audience.
Profile: Dark Guitar, Post-Punk, Darkwave
The festival covers the broad spectrum of dark guitar music: Gothic Rock, Post-Punk, Darkwave, with targeted excursions into electronic and ritualistic sounds. Each edition typically features four to six acts from Germany and several European countries. The selection is deliberately European, encompassing the careers of pioneering bands as well as current scene newcomers.
Curated by Golden Apes
The programming is the responsibility of the Berlin-based band Golden Apes, a long-established act in the international dark scene who see the festival as a deliberately curated gathering for the scene. This is reflected in the atmosphere: no festival camping, no day festival, but a concentrated evening with acts that would rarely come together in the typical festival industry.
Lido – The Former Cinema
Since the 2000s, the Lido on Cuvrystraße has been one of Berlin's most important concert clubs for alternative rock music. With a capacity of only a few hundred people, the venue is internationally known for its profile – many European bands play their Berlin premiere here. Its location between Görlitzer Park and the Spree makes the Lido a typical Kreuzberg nightlife spot.
Admission and Tickets
Tickets are available in advance via KOKA36 and tixforgigs.com. Due to its limited capacity, the festival traditionally sells out early, especially when internationally sought-after headliners are announced.
