Traditional summer festival of the Notzingen-Wellingen Music Association around the original Notzinger Dätscher
The Dätscherfest Notzingen is one of the most charming association festivals in the Esslingen district. Organized by the Musikverein Notzingen-Wellingen e.V., the festival combines a classic Swabian association festival atmosphere with a very special culinary specialty — the Original Notzinger Dätschers.
The Notzinger Dätscher is a flat, crisply baked flatbread, comparable to a thin pizza base or Swabian Flammkuchen dough — but with its own character. They are hand-baked by the "Dätscherfrauen und Dätschermänner" of the music association — a voluntary team that has been preserving the tradition for years. Topped with sour cream and bacon, with cheese, or with sweet variations — the Datscher is the culinary identity of the festival.
The program follows a proven structure:
• Saturday, May 16 — From 11 AM, Datscher sales begin on the Kelterplatz, from 12 PM catering in the festival tent; 5 PM procession from Wellingen to the Kelterplatz (goes through the village); evening program with the brass band of the MV Notzingen-Wellingen (5:30 PM), the fire brigade music band (5:30 PM — assuming typo in original), the host music association (6:15 PM), and Musikverein Lindorf (8:15 PM).
• Sunday, May 17 — From 11 AM, the festival day begins with catering; performances by Musikverein Stadtkapelle Plochingen (11 AM), Youth Brass Band (1:30 PM), Musikverein Alfdorf (3 PM), Musikverein Ohmden (5:30 PM).
The festival is traditionally run by volunteers, well-catered, and characterized by brass music.
Notzingen (Esslingen district, AGS 08116, around 4,100 inhabitants) is located on the Swabian Jura escarpment between Stuttgart and Göppingen. The municipality consists of the districts Notzingen and Wellingen. With the Dätscherfest, organized by the joint Musikverein Notzingen-Wellingen e.V., the municipality cultivates a beautiful local tradition — and the procession from Wellingen to the Kelterplatz symbolically connects the two districts.
On the weekend of Saturday, May 16, to Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Musikverein Notzingen-Wellingen e.V. will once again transform the Kelterplatz in Wellingen into a Swabian festival ground. The specialty is the Original Notzinger Dätschers — flat, crisply baked flatbreads, hand-baked by the volunteer Datscher team.
The highlight of Saturday is the procession from Wellingen to the Kelterplatz at 5 PM — a beautiful association tradition that symbolically connects the two districts of Notzingen and Wellingen. Afterwards, the in-house brass band, friendly music associations, and the Stadtkapelle Plochingen will take turns on stage.
