Anniversary run by the Wadden Sea — Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 km, Kids' Runs — May 10, 2026
For two decades, the Cuxhaven City Savings Bank Marathon has been the central running event on the North Sea coast. The 2026 edition marks the 20th running — an occasion for a special staging of the anniversary race on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
The start and finish for all distances is the Kugelbake-Halle in Cuxhaven-Döse. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kugelbake, the northernmost point of Lower Saxony and a landmark of Cuxhaven. The hall serves as the race headquarters, changing rooms, and event hub for award ceremonies and the pasta party.
The range of distances covers all levels:
The marathon course runs along the Wadden Sea, which has been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site since 2009. Runners will experience a unique backdrop: dykes, mudflats, salt marshes, views towards the Elbe estuary, and passing freighters and cruise ships. The course is flat and thus also suitable for personal best ambitions — provided the North Sea wind cooperates.
The Cuxhaven Marathon is more than just a sporting competition: it is also a solidarity run for a children's hospice. A portion of the entry fees benefits charitable causes. Thus, the race combines top athletic performance with social commitment.
Cuxhaven has made a name for itself as a sports city by the sea — in addition to the marathon, the beach volleyball cup, beach handball tournaments, and the Duhner Wattrennen attract athletes and spectators to the North Sea town.
The exact start times for 2026 will be published by the organizer in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Kugelbake-Halle, Cuxhaven-Döse. Via the A 27 to Cuxhaven, follow signs to Döse. Train connections at Cuxhaven station, from there take a bus or taxi to Döse.
Online registration via cuxhaven-marathon.de and my.raceresult.com. Entry fees vary by distance. Early registration is recommended.
Book accommodation in Cuxhaven well in advance — hotels are fully booked during marathon weekend. After the race: relax on Duhnen beach or take a mudflat hike.
