Five-day wine festival in Meckenheim with 13 serving points — 2026 sees the comeback of the historic Pfarrhof after a seven-year break
Meckenheim is a compact Palatinate wine village located between Deidesheim and Haßloch. Its historic village center consists of a network of small alleys — 'Gässel' in the Palatinate dialect — with winegrowers' courtyards, small squares, and inner courtyards. The idea of the Gässelweinkerwe is brilliant in its simplicity: instead of one large festival area, the entire network of the village center becomes the festival ground. 13 serving points are spread throughout the alleys and courtyards, and visitors walk between them on foot — discovering the Palatinate village from a very unique perspective.
2026 marks a special edition: after a seven-year break, the historic Pfarrhof will once again be part of the Kerwe. The venerable courtyard, one of the oldest buildings in the village, will be managed for the first time by the young Weingut Lukas Metz — a rejuvenation for one of the most traditional stops on the event.
The opening takes place on Friday, May 29, 2026, starting at 6 PM with a small procession from Sandgasse 34. Around 6:30 PM, the traditional Kerwebaum will be erected on the village square. On the following days, the music program changes: DJ Schanze (Friday 8 PM), Only Plan (Saturday 8 PM), Königsbacher Blasmusik (Sunday 11 AM), Stephan Münch (Sunday 2:30 PM), and DJ Rob G (Sunday 5 PM) as well as Achim Kaul (Monday 6 PM) will play on the village square. At Weingut Braun, brass bands, acoustic groups, and local musicians will provide the musical entertainment from Friday to Tuesday. In the Antikhof, the group just4fun will play on Saturday at 5 PM.
The Gässelweinkerwe is described by many Palatinate locals as one of the coziest and most atmospheric Kerwen in the region. The distribution across several courtyards and alleys ensures constantly changing moods — from the traditional 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) character of a club festival to the modern, younger wine estate courtyard with a DJ and cocktail bar.
