Pentecost enjoyment hike through the Himmelreich vineyard area above Herxheim am Berg with culinary stops and Palatinate wines
The Himmelreich vineyard site above Herxheim am Berg is one of the most characteristic sites of the northern Mittelhaardt. Riesling and Burgundy grapes of considerable quality grow on the slope above the village — on soil that imparts minerality and freshness, in a position that combines warm sunshine hours with cool nights from the Palatinate Forest. Those who hike through the vineyard site understand why vintners speak so enthusiastically about their vineyards.
The Culinary Hike follows a marked circular route through the vineyards. At several stops, dishes from regional production await — Palatinate classics, creative bites, vegetarian alternatives — and wines from Herxheim producers. The hike thus becomes a complete culinary excursion, culminating in the view from the highest points: Palatinate Forest to the west, Rhine plain to the east, Odenwald forest to the north.
Pentecost is one of the most beautiful travel times in the Palatinate. The vines bear the fresh green of early summer, the days are warm but not yet overheated, and the evenings are long. Spread over the four Pentecost days — Pentecost Friday to Pentecost Monday — the Culinary Hike offers several opportunities to join. The atmosphere at the stops is relaxed: tables in the open air, umbrellas, wooden tables to sit down.
Those who know the format return every year — regular guests combine the hike with an extended Pentecost weekend in the Palatinate. But newcomers are also welcome: the route is manageable, the concept self-explanatory, and the Palatinate hospitality does the rest.
The 2026 edition follows the proven Pentecost dramaturgy: four days of station operations along a marked circular route through the vineyards. The Herxheim vintners open stands at various locations in the Himmelreich vineyard site, where Palatinate specialties and wines are served.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
The stops are spread along a marked circular route through the Himmelreich vineyard site. Each stop offers different dishes and different wines from the Herxheim vintners.
