Demonstration and celebration of the LGBTIQ+ community in the city of poets and thinkers — June 27, 2026
Weimar, with around 65,000 inhabitants, is a comparatively small city — but of immense cultural significance. Goethe, Schiller, the Bauhaus, the first German democratic draft constitution (Weimar Republic), and the National Theatre have made the city a UNESCO World Heritage site with global resonance. It is precisely in this historical and culturally charged environment that Christopher Street Day Weimar has been taking place for several years — a clear political statement by the LGBTIQ+ community in a region where these voices are less prominent than in the major metropolises.
The central event of CSD Weimar is the demonstration and parade through the historic city center. The demonstration procession moves along Schillerstraße, past the Market Square and Theater Square — with floats, music, rainbow flags, costumed participants, and political banners. The UNESCO World Heritage backdrop makes the parade particularly photogenic and atmospheric — rarely do Pride parades pass along such historic architecture. The route leads past Weimar's classical landmarks: the Goethe-Schiller Monument, the National Theatre, and the City Palace.
CSD Weimar is not just a celebration, but explicitly a political demonstration. Rallies before and after the parade address current issues: protection of trans people, prohibition of discrimination in schools and professions, combating homophobic violence, and recognition of diverse lifestyles. Speakers include representatives of local LGBTIQ+ initiatives, the University of Weimar, the city administration, and guest speakers. Thus, CSD Weimar positions itself within the activist spectrum of the German Pride movement.
After the political program points, the festival transitions into an open-air party. DJs play on a central stage, the audience dances under the summer evening sky, and stands provide food and drinks. The day's political message remains visible, but the celebration shifts to a more social phase — a typical CSD format that combines demonstration, rally, and celebration within a single day's schedule.
CSD Weimar is integrated into the nationwide CSD calendar, which includes over 180 Pride events each year, from small village gatherings to big city demonstrations. Weimar's position in this network is clear: a medium-sized, but culturally significant CSD in Thuringia, bringing Pride visibility to a region where LGBTIQ+ issues otherwise receive less attention. This gives CSD Weimar an additional dimension: it is not only a celebration for its own community but also a symbol to a sometimes still conservative rural environment.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the LGBTIQ+ community in Weimar will once again demonstrate for equality, visibility, and against discrimination. The central program sequence: opening rally at the Market Square, followed by a parade through the historic city center with floats, a demonstration procession, and music, then a closing rally. The evening concludes with an open-air party with DJs.
The event is organized by CSD Weimar e.V. and is part of the nationwide CSD calendar 2026. The detailed program will be published in the weeks leading up to the event on the association's social media channels (Instagram @csdweimar, Facebook CSDinWeimar).
