The city of Herne, with around 156,000 inhabitants in the central Ruhr Area between Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, and Recklinghausen, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is a classic large Ruhr Area city with a mining past, a distinct working-class culture, and a now significantly diversified urban society. CSD Herne — Pride in the Ruhr Area

The first Christopher Street Day Herne took place in 2022 — a relatively young Pride event in a city that had no CSD of its own until then. The organizer is CSD Herne e.V., supported by dedicated volunteers, local LGBTQ+ groups, and with the support of the Herne city administration. Slogans of past editions:
