Christopher Street Day in the UNESCO World Heritage City
CSD Bamberg is one of the younger Prides in Bavaria. Christopher Street Day Bamberg e.V. was only founded in 2023, but within a few years, the demonstration has become a fixed date in the Upper Franconian event calendar. With around 1,500 expected participants in 2026, CSD Bamberg is a medium-sized but very vibrant Pride – embedded in the picturesque setting of Bamberg's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993.
The actual demonstration route starts at the train station and leads through the city center to Maxplatz. It is accompanied by trucks, club contingents, music, and political statements. The final rally and a stage program take place on Maxplatz.
With the motto “Kuni is there for everyone,” CSD 2026 references a Bamberg icon: Saint Kunigunde, co-founder of Bamberg Cathedral. The message: Bamberg, its history, and its city society should be open, plural, and inclusive. The association explicitly understands CSD not as a pure party, but as a political demonstration for the human rights of queer people.
21 accompanying events are held over several weeks. The kick-off is an info booth on IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia). In June, the traveling exhibition “Living in Danger. Queer People 1933–1945” by the Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation in the Alte Hofhaltung showcases the history of queer people during National Socialism – in cooperation with the Bamberg City Museums.
Upper Franconia is characterized by a more conservative culture, which often makes queer visibility more difficult than in large cities. This is precisely why CSD Bamberg has symbolic significance. The city, with its mix of Baroque Old Town, university, and brewery culture, is a good place to bring the topic into the mainstream.
The 2026 edition of CSD Bamberg takes place on Saturday, July 11. Starting at 2:00 PM, the demonstration train forms at Bamberg station. Trucks, club contingents, music, and political statements march through the city center to Maxplatz, where the final rally with speeches and a stage program follows.
The motto “Kuni is there for everyone” plays on Bamberg's icon, Saint Kunigunde. With around 1,500 expected participants, the demonstration is one of Upper Franconia's most significant queer-political events.
The detailed program overview of all 21 events is maintained by CSD Bamberg e.V. on csd-bamberg.de.
The demonstration and most accompanying events are free. Individual program items (parties, guided events) may incur a fee.
Bamberg station is an ICE and regional train station. The demonstration starts directly at the station. By car via the A 70 or A 73, then follow signs to the city center parking lots. Parts of the city center are closed during the demonstration.
The demonstration and most accompanying events are free.
Demonstration starts at 2:00 PM at the train station. Final rally on Maxplatz afterwards.
