About Museum Night Coburg

Once a year, the Coburg Museum Night transforms the former residence city into a large cultural route: From 6 p.m. to midnight, Veste Coburg, Ehrenburg Palace, the Hofgarten, and numerous other museums open their doors for a joint program of light installations, concerts, guided tours, and performances. In 2026, the event celebrates its 20th anniversary under the motto 'Night of Treasures' — a homage to the precious collections that have always been cherished in Coburg.

Coburg, the Residence City of Treasures

Coburg in northern Upper Franconia (Bavaria) is considered one of the cities with the most museums in Germany. The history of the former residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha has left behind an extraordinary tradition of collecting: The Veste Coburg with its world-famous glass and weapons collections, Ehrenburg Palace with its princely living rooms, the Natural History Museum, the Doll Museum, and several smaller houses together form a unique ensemble.

The Idea of the Museum Night

Since 2006, all these houses have opened their doors together once a year for a single night — from 6 p.m. to midnight. With a single ticket, visitors can move between the houses, take part in special guided tours, listen to concerts, experience performances, and discover works that otherwise slumber in storage.

20th Anniversary 2026: 'Night of Treasures'

For the 20th anniversary on September 12, 2026, the curatorial team has chosen the motto 'Night of Treasures'. The collections are deliberately staged to highlight their most precious pieces — magical places, valuable collections, unique light and music installations, well-known jewels, and hidden gems.

A Night for Strolling

The concept invites you to stroll: between the houses, by shuttle bus, through the illuminated Hofgarten at night, past open-air installations. Artists are present, new perspectives are enabled, and amazement and celebration are continuous. A format that makes Coburg's cultural landscape tangible as a coherent experience once a year.

Organizers

The organizer of the Museum Night is the Coburger Landesstiftung, which manages most of Coburg's museums. Tickets are sold through the advance booking system Reservix.
