Classical Music Under the Open Sky

The Märchenbad am Moos is the popular outdoor swimming pool in Neustadt bei Coburg, in the north of Upper Franconia. Once a year, the sunbathing lawn by the poolside becomes the stage for Classic & Picknick — an open-air concert where the audience brings its own picnic and enjoys a balmy summer evening with classical and light music in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Orchestra of the Music Friends

The Orchestra of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Neustadt b. Coburg e.V. performs under the direction of conductor Manuel Grund. The program features a Best-Of selection from classical music, musicals, film scores, as well as rock and pop — a diverse cross-section that appeals to lovers of symphonic sounds as well as a broad audience. Host Christine Rebhan guides through the evening.

Picnic by the Poolside

The concept is deliberately informal: blankets, picnic baskets, and folding chairs are welcome, and the swimming pool area offers plenty of space. The admission fee is kept intentionally low at just a few euros — Classic & Picknick is intended as a cultural event for the whole town and for all generations.

Neustadt bei Coburg is located in the district of Coburg on the Bavarian-Thuringian border and is known as the German Puppet Town. The German Toy Museum, Muppet World, and the running and cycling paths around the Moos make the town an attractive destination for excursions — Classic & Picknick is one of the cultural highlights of the Neustadt summer.
