50 Years Pumpwerk – A Year Full of Highlights
The Pumpwerk cultural centre in Wilhelmshaven is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. To mark the occasion, the venue has curated a programme year full of high-calibre concerts and events. One of the absolute highlights takes place on May 21, 2026: Thomas D & The KBCs will perform a solo concert in Wilhelmshaven.
Thomas D – A Reunion in Wilhelmshaven
Thomas D, born Thomas Dürr, is one of the most influential figures in German-language hip-hop as the frontman of Die Fantastischen Vier. In his solo career, he has consistently navigated between rap, rock, and spiritually charged themes. With his band The KBCs, he has created a format that combines his rocking band side with his rap roots.
Remembering the Start of a Career
The concert has a very personal background: Die Fantastischen Vier already played at the Pumpwerk over 30 years ago, during a phase when the band was still at the beginning of its journey. Wilhelmshaven thus belongs to the symbolic stages of the early Fanta-Vier career. Thomas D describes the performances there as "always very emotional concerts" – the return for the Pumpwerk's 50th birthday thus becomes a small homage to his own career.
Musically: Rap, Rock, and Soul
The programme with The KBCs combines three worlds: Rap, Rock, and Soul. The songs range from solo classics from Thomas D's repertoire to band pieces by The KBCs and reinterpretations from the Fantastischen Vier canon. In the concert hall of the Pumpwerk – a former harbour pumping station with special acoustics – the evening promises an intimate yet powerful energy.
A Cultural Moment in Wilhelmshaven
The concert marks one of the peak dates in the anniversary year and underscores the importance of the Pumpwerk in the North German cultural landscape. With Thomas D, not only a nationally renowned artist comes to the Jade City – the concert also becomes a symbol of a relationship between a city and a band that has grown over three decades.
