30th anniversary edition of the Circus and Kite Festival at Friesenstrand Tossens — three days of kite flying, circus school, and family magic on the North Sea
The Circus and Kite Festival Tossens is the largest family event on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast and one of the defining Pentecost events in the region. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary edition with the motto A Sky Full of Wonders. The venue is once again the Friesenstrand Tossens, a spacious beach and dike area in the municipality of Butjadingen directly on the North Sea.
From May 23rd to 25th, 2026, the festival opens daily from 10 am. For three days, Friesenstrand will be transformed into a colorful mix of circus tent, kite flying field, workshop area, and play zone. The concept consistently focuses on hands-on experiences for children — from building their own kite to acrobatics under the guidance of professional circus educators.
A highlight for kite fans: The renowned HQ Flightschool offers kite workshops for beginners and advanced flyers throughout the festival. The spectrum ranges from piloting simple single-line kites to spectacular stunt kite maneuvers. Professional kite flyers will demonstrate what is possible with wind and skill in the sky above Friesenstrand.
The Circus School invites children to dive into the world of juggling, acrobatics, unicycling, and diabolo. Trampoline facilities, drum workshops, and clown performances complement the program. Those who prefer a quieter activity can participate in the digital scavenger hunt — an interactive discovery tour across the festival grounds.
Day ticket €8 (adults), with guest card €6. The three-day family ticket costs €39 (€34 with guest card). Guests of Center Parcs and Regenbogen AG have free admission. With this pricing model, the festival positions itself as one of the most accessible family offers of the North Sea summer.
With its timing on the Whitsun weekend, the festival benefits from the long weekend and the traditionally high number of overnight stays on the North Sea coast. Tossens is reachable in under two hours for day-trippers from Bremen, Bremerhaven, Oldenburg, and Wesermarsch.
The 30th anniversary edition promises a particularly dense program and special additions for the festival's birthday. Kite and circus offerings are spread across the entire beach area, allowing families to move flexibly between the different zones.
In case of stormy weather, individual program points will be adjusted; the kite and beach areas are divided by activity type.
