Film music concerts have developed into one of the most successful classical crossover formats in recent years. The concept is simple and effective: a symphony orchestra plays the well-known themes from major Hollywood productions live, often synchronized with visual clips on a screen, thus bringing the soundtracks, which are otherwise only heard as recordings, back to their original acoustic power. CineSymphony – Movies in Concert is one such format, appearing at the Messehalle Idar-Oberstein and aiming to appeal to a broad audience.

The repertoire typically ranges from the iconic themes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter, to Hans Zimmer's scores from Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight, and Ennio Morricone's Western classics and James Horner's soundtracks for Avatar and Titanic. The program is often supplemented by arrangements from European productions, from the animation genre (Pixar, Disney, Ghibli), and by newer soundtracks that continue the genre. The Messehalle in Idar-Oberstein offers several advantages as a venue: sufficient space for a large orchestra on stage, flexible seating arrangements, good sightlines, and the possibility of integrating a large screen for visual projections. Unlike in classical concert halls, the atmosphere is more informal; interval refreshments with sparkling wine, beer, and snacks are offered, the audience can move more freely, and families with older children feel welcome.
