Rustic family Christmas market at Nordhorn Zoo with a live nativity scene and regional specialties
During Advent, Nordhorn Zoo opens its gates for a special Christmas market, transforming the park area with wooden huts and fairy lights into a festive winter scene. The combination of animal encounters and market atmosphere is unique in the region.
A special highlight is the live nativity scene, where the park's animals bring the Christmas story to life. This allows the market to combine the transmission of Christian traditions with the zoo's own strengths.
The market features stalls with regional specialties from the Grafschaft, including products from the Bentheimer pig, a traditional local pig breed raised in the park. In addition, there is mulled wine, hot chocolate, baked goods, and snacks.
The market takes place from November 27th to December 6th, 2026, and on the weekend of December 12th and 13th, 2026. It opens at 4 PM on weekdays and 2 PM on weekends, catering to both working people and families.
On Saturdays and Sundays, a shuttle bus runs between 3:30 PM and 8 PM from Nordhorn train station to the zoo. This avoids parking problems and makes travel by train or bus from the region easy.
The combination of a family zoo, a live nativity scene, and an Advent market makes the zoo a special Christmas destination in the Grafschaft Bentheim region.
Nordhorn Zoo will publish the full 2026 program on weihnachtsmarkt-im-zoo.de.
