About Christmas Market Bot. Garden Solingen
Christmas Market Bot. Garden Solingen — edition 2026
4th Edition on the 3rd Advent Weekend
The 2026 edition is the fourth joint edition of the Christmas market by the Foundation Botanical Garden Solingen and the Hospice and Palliative Foundation Solingen. Date: 3rd Advent weekend (December 12-13), opening hours Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm.
The concept has proven itself and become established in the first three editions: festively decorated greenhouses, a consistently charitable arts and crafts market, a family program in the tropical house — and a clear fundraising goal for hospice care. The atmosphere between tropical plants, Advent lights, and the wintry outdoor setting makes the market one of the most unusual Advent events in the Bergisches Land.

Botanical Garden Solingen — the green oasis in the Bergisches Land
The Botanical Garden Solingen is located in the Vogelsang district in the west of the "Klingenstadt" (city of blades), nestled in a wooded hillside. With an area of around 4.5 hectares, several greenhouses (tropical house, succulent house), themed gardens (medicinal plants, rock garden, cottage garden, rose garden), and an arboretum, the garden is one of the most beautiful smaller botanical gardens in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is supported by the Foundation Botanical Garden Solingen and the City of Solingen — admission to the garden is free all year round.
Advent Market with a Charitable Purpose
For four years, the Christmas market in the Botanical Garden has been a joint project of the Foundation Botanical Garden and the Hospice and Palliative Foundation Solingen — a fundraising campaign with a market framework. The Hospice and Palliative Foundation supports the outpatient and inpatient hospice care in Solingen, which accompanies terminally ill people and their families. The proceeds from stall fees and refreshments go directly to this charitable work.
Atmosphere in the Greenhouses
What makes this Christmas market unique is the setting: the historic greenhouses are festively decorated — between tropical plants, succulents, and medicinal herbs, there are stalls with handmade crafts, organic honey, regional wine, and homemade goods. The warm, humid greenhouses create an unusual contrast to the wintry outside world — many visitors come just for this atmosphere.
Children's Program in the Tropical House
Especially for families: the tropical house becomes the children's program area. Craft activities with natural materials, storytelling, hands-on activities with cake and cookies — children's participation is a conscious focus of the event. A tried-and-tested classic: baking cookies in the tropical house with subsequent tasting.
Catering with a Regional Connection
In the outdoor area of the Botanical Garden, local restaurateurs offer classic Christmas market catering: mulled wine and punch, potato pancakes, bratwurst, crêpes, coffee specialties. Consistently regional and predominantly with organic components. Tea with medicinal herbs from the garden is also available at a separate stand.
Getting to the Botanical Garden
By car via the L 74 or K 5 — parking spaces directly at the Botanical Garden. By public transport: bus lines from Solingen city center to the Vogelsang district, stop Botanischer Garten. Around a 15-minute bus ride from Solingen main station. If coming from the Rhineland: Solingen is easily accessible via the A 46 or A 1; about a 30-minute drive from Cologne.
