A City on the Water

Nordhorn is the largest 'Wasserstadt' (Water City) in southwestern Lower Saxony. With the Vechtesee lake, the Stadtring canal, harbor basins, and several small watercourses, water fundamentally shapes the cityscape. In recent years, VVV Stadt- und Citymarketing Nordhorn has built up the 'Wasserstadt Nordhorn' brand image and is now complementing it with its own festival format, making water the central program point.

Three Locations, Two Days

The Wasserstadt Wochenende is spread across three main waterside locations. Klukkert-Hafen, with its maritime flair, is particularly suitable for maritime programs, concert stages, and harbor tours. The connecting lock at Neumarkt offers a direct connection to the Stadtring canal tour and represents the technical aspect of the Water City. Seepark Nordhorn on the Vechtesee lake forms the open, green-framed stage with sunbathing lawns, play areas, and paths along the water.

Sundown am See — Saturday

Saturday starts at 3 PM and runs until 11 PM under the title 'Sundown am See' (Sundown by the Lake). Stage programs, gastronomy, and an atmospheric late afternoon ambiance characterize the day. As dusk falls, the light over the water surfaces changes, and the program gains a special atmosphere that can only be created by the water.

Fest der Kanäle — Sunday

Sunday is designed as a 'Vereinstag' (Club Day) under the title 'Fest der Kanäle' (Festival of the Canals). Clubs and institutions from Nordhorn present themselves at stands, demonstrate water sports, canoeing, rowing, and sailing, and invite families to participate. This makes the weekend a showcase of the civil society structures that actively support the city's water profile.

The event is presented by Grafschafter Volksbank eG and is freely accessible at all locations. With this broad approach, the Wasserstadt Wochenende reaches families, young adults, and summer guests alike, positioning itself as one of the most important summer city festivals in the Grafschaft Bentheim region.
